Physical Sciences Teacher (Grades 10-12)

A faith-based independent school in Durban Central needs a teacher who can hold a class and lift the marks. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Home base is a faith-based independent school on the Durban Central side of KwaZulu-Natal. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
• Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
• Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
• Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
• Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
• Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops

• A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
• You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
• Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
• Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
• At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice

• Honours degree in your subject or in education management
• Coaching experience in a major school sport
• Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework

• Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
• Bring a short sample lesson to the interview; many schools ask you to teach for 15 minutes.
