Job Description

Your subject, your classroom and learners who need you to believe in them: that's this faith-based independent school in Polokwane. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is in Polokwane (Limpopo). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

What your day looks like

  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
  • Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
  • Teach your allocated classes and keep the pace of the ATP
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
  • Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term

What you need

  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control

Nice if you have

  • Experience with remedial or inclusive education
  • Experience marking for the NSC or IEB
  • Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework

What's in it for you

  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies
  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
  • School holidays in line with the school calendar

How to apply

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Polokwane really suit you before you apply.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record plus two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 10 working days.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

  • Bring a short sample lesson to the interview; many schools ask you to teach for 15 minutes.
  • Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
