Pipe Welder (Carbon Steel & Stainless)

The pressure vessel manufacturer in Middelburg (MP) needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Location: Middelburg (MP), Mpumalanga. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector

• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help

• Orbital or automatic welding experience
• Rigging or crane signalling certificate
• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1

• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
