Pipe Welder (Carbon Steel & Stainless) – Experienced

Strong welding and plate work for the petrochemical shutdown contractor in Tzaneen, with real drawings and real tolerances. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a petrochemical shutdown contractor in Tzaneen. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns

• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification

• Orbital or automatic welding experience
• Rigging or crane signalling certificate

• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
