Planter Operator (Maize)

Planting to harvest, a fruit orchard near Mamelodi runs on good tractor drivers. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The site is in Mamelodi; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Haul cane, grain or fruit bins from field to shed
• Check oil, water, tyres and grease points before starting
• Operate combine harvesters during harvest season
• Record hours, fuel and fields worked on the job card
• Report breakdowns and help the mechanic with repairs
• Plant rows straight, using GPS guidance where the tractor has it

• Available to live on or near the farm
• Safe driver who respects chemical and machine safety
• Reliable and sober on duty
• Willing to work long hours in planting and harvest seasons
• At least 2 years driving tractors on a farm
• Can read job cards and spray instructions

• A pesticide application or spray course
• Code 8 or Code 10 licence for road trips
• Basic mechanical skills

• Training on new machinery
• Farm housing with water and electricity
• Overtime paid during planting and harvest
• Harvest bonus at season end

• List the machines you can drive and the implements you have used. Farmers want to know if you can plant, spray or harvest on day one.
• A reference from a previous farmer is gold. Ask for it before you leave any farm job.
