Pruning and Thinning Crew Worker

Winter fire season is near, and an eucalyptus plantation near Centurion needs crews ready. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is Centurion-based, with most of your time spent at an eucalyptus plantation.

• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times

• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Valid ID
• Willing to work in remote areas
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Passes the medical check for fire crews

• Chainsaw operator certificate
• Previous plantation or sawmill experience

• Full safety gear provided
• Fire-season standby allowance
• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost

• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
