Planter Operator (Maize)

You'll drive tractors and farm machines on a fruit orchard near Paarl through planting and harvest. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a fruit orchard in Paarl. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Report breakdowns and help the mechanic with repairs
• Haul cane, grain or fruit bins from field to shed
• Mix and apply sprays exactly as the farm manager prescribes
• Plant rows straight, using GPS guidance where the tractor has it
• Check oil, water, tyres and grease points before starting
• Operate combine harvesters during harvest season

• Basic understanding of implements and settings
• At least 2 years driving tractors on a farm
• Reliable and sober on duty
• Available to live on or near the farm
• Willing to work long hours in planting and harvest seasons

• Combine harvester experience
• Basic mechanical skills
• A pesticide application or spray course

• Harvest bonus at season end
• Overtime paid during planting and harvest
• Training on new machinery
