Plasterer (Internal and External Walls) – Fixed-Term

Good, straight work gets noticed on this school construction project in Durban Central, and so does turning up every day. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Location: Durban Central, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings

• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible

• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade
• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects

• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
