Plater and Fabricator (Tanks & Hoppers)

The petrochemical shutdown contractor in Pietermaritzburg needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll report in Pietermaritzburg. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld

• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help

• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1
• Rigging or crane signalling certificate

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
