Songs, stories, sandpits and routines: help a primary school aftercare programme in Pretoria East give children a strong start. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Home base is a primary school aftercare programme on the Pretoria East side of Gauteng.

• Observe each child and note milestones in their development file
• Run morning ring with songs, weather and counting
• Plan themes and holiday programmes with the principal
• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe
• Clean and sanitise toys, mats and tables at the end of the day
• Help aftercare learners with homework and reading

• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners
• Experience caring for children in a group setting, even as a volunteer
• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Warm, patient and energetic with small children

• Experience with children with special needs
• Speak more than one home language of the children you'll teach

• Lunch provided on school days
• Sponsored ECD Level 5 studies
• Short holiday closures over December and Easter

• Add one sentence about an activity you ran that the children loved; it shows you can plan, not just supervise.
• Put your ECD level and first aid certificate in the first lines of your CV; creches check these before anything else.
