Job Description

Hard outdoor work on a road rehabilitation project in Johannesburg CBD, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Home base is a road rehabilitation project on the Johannesburg CBD side of Gauteng.

The work, day to day

Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines

Must-haves

A clean record is preferred for some government sites
Prepared to travel between sites in the area
Willing to start early, often at 06:30
You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

Nice if you have

A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
Previous site work you can show with a reference
Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

On offer

Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
