Job Description

Hard outdoor work on a low-cost housing development in Paarl, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Home base is a low-cost housing development on the Paarl side of Western Cape. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What your day looks like

Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor

Must-haves

Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
Willing to start early, often at 06:30
A clean record is preferred for some government sites
Grade 8 or higher
Prepared to travel between sites in the area

Helpful, not essential

Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database

What you get
