Job Description

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a hospice in-patient unit in Cape Town CBD. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll be based at a hospice in-patient unit in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What you'll actually do

  • Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
  • Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
  • Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
  • Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
  • Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
  • Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
  • Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister

You'll need

  • Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
  • First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
  • Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
  • Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
  • SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts

Extra points for

  • A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
  • Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits

What's in it for you

  • Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
  • Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
  • Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
  • Overtime paid at time and a half
