Post-Operative Caregiver (Private Home) – Fixed-Term

Your care keeps residents at a physical rehabilitation hospital in Gqeberha safe, clean and comfortable through the day. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge

• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Uniform supplied
