Post-Operative Caregiver (Private Home)

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a physical rehabilitation hospital in Krugersdorp. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

The work is in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse

• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Uniform supplied
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
