Primary Health Care Nurse (PHC Clinic)

This is a registered nursing post at a private maternity unit in Alberton, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Location: Alberton, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls

• Clean criminal record
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly

• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
