Primary Health Care Nurse (PHC Clinic)

This is a registered nursing post at a private maternity unit in East London, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a private maternity unit in East London. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients

• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
• Clean criminal record
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly

• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work
• Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts

• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups

• Put your SANC number and the units you've worked in at the very top of your CV; recruiters filter on these first.
• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
