Primary Health Care Nurse (PHC Clinic)

Bring your SANC registration and your ward experience to a private maternity unit in Umlazi that needs a steady pair of hands. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a private maternity unit on the Umlazi side of KwaZulu-Natal. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day

• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice

• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts

• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay

• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
• List your speciality skills in plain words, such as "ventilated patients" or "normal deliveries", instead of just the ward name.
