Job Description

Machines set the pace at this meat processing plant in Newcastle; you keep up and catch the faults. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a meat processing plant on the Newcastle side of KwaZulu-Natal.

What your day looks like

  • Help the machine operator clear jams and reload hoppers
  • Clean down machines and floors at the end of each run
  • Check product for size, weight and seal faults and pull out rejects
  • Pack finished product into cases and stack them by batch number
  • Feed raw material or empty packaging into the machine at the start of the line
  • Wear hairnets, beard covers and gloves in food-safe zones

What you need

  • Available for rotating day and night shifts
  • Neat, reliable and on time for shift start
  • Basic reading and counting for batch sheets
  • Medically fit; some food plants ask for a medical check
  • You follow hygiene rules without being reminded
  • No problem wearing full PPE, including ear protection

On offer

  • Free PPE, overalls and hairnets
  • Staff shop with discounted factory products
  • Path to machine operator after six months

Applying, step by step

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Newcastle really suit you before you apply.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: your latest school results or matric certificate, ID copy, certified within the last three months plus food handler or HACCP certificate if you have one.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 10 working days.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Newcastle.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Name the products you worked on before, like "biscuit line" or "juice bottling". Factory recruiters read that faster than a job title.
  • Do not wear jewellery or long nails to the interview if it is on site. Food factories notice and it counts.
