Professional Nurse (Maternity and Labour Ward)

Bring your SANC registration and your ward experience to a mine health centre in Gqeberha that needs a steady pair of hands. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Location: Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders

• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Clean criminal record

• Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery
• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems

• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Study support for post-basic specialities

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
