Professional Nurse (Maternity and Labour Ward)

You'll run patient care on a busy shift at a step-down and sub-acute facility in Pretoria West, from admission to discharge. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The site is in Pretoria West; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly

• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays

• Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work
• Unit manager or shift leader experience

• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
