Job Description

This is a registered nursing post at a private hospital surgical ward in Pinetown, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a private hospital surgical ward on the Pinetown side of KwaZulu-Natal. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

What you'll actually do

Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families

What you need

At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
Clean criminal record

Extra points for

IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work
Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery
