Job Description

Hard, outdoor work on a fire protection association near eMalahleni, with training on chainsaws and fire safety. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll report in eMalahleni. Relocation is not covered for this one.

What you'll actually do

Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily

What you need

Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Valid ID

Helpful, not essential

Previous plantation or sawmill experience
Fire fighting training
First-aid training
