Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and a pine plantation near Thohoyandou needs crews ready. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

The work is in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

What you'll actually do

Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season

You'll need

Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Willing to work in remote areas
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Valid ID

Nice if you have

Previous plantation or sawmill experience
First-aid training
Fire fighting training
