Public Area Cleaner (Hotel)

Guests at a beachfront holiday resort in Benoni will never meet you, but they will judge the stay by your work. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Home base is a beachfront holiday resort on the Benoni side of Gauteng.

• Log lost property with the guest's room number and date
• Clean lobby, lifts and public toilets through the day
• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry
• Clean bathrooms, replace towels and restock guest toiletries
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included

• Friendly and polite if you meet guests in the corridor
• Grade 10 or matric
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season
• Well groomed

• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests
• Experience with industrial laundry machines

• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges

• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
• If you worked in a star-graded hotel, say which grading. It tells them the standard you already know.
