Public Area Cleaner (Hotel)

You'll turn rooms around at a conference hotel in Soweto so every guest walks into a room that feels new. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll be based at a conference hotel in Soweto. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry
• Clean lobby, lifts and public toilets through the day
• Log lost property with the guest's room number and date
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Work through a room list, marking rooms clean on the housekeeping board
• Keep your trolley stocked and neat before each shift
• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included

• Grade 10 or matric
• Friendly and polite if you meet guests in the corridor
• Well groomed
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone
• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season

• A hospitality short course or NQF Level 2 accommodation services certificate
• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests
• Experience with industrial laundry machines

• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen

• Mention seasonal availability for December and Easter. Coastal and lodge properties hire heavily before those peaks.
• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
