Qualified Electrician (Residential Installations) – Permanent

The food processing plant in Umhlanga needs a qualified electrician who can work neatly and sign off safe installations. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

You'll be based at a food processing plant in Umhlanga. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Read electrical layouts and mark out point positions before chasing walls
• Quote small jobs for clients and explain the fault in plain language
• Install and wire distribution boards, isolators and earth leakage units to SANS 10142-1
• Fault-find tripping circuits with a multimeter, insulation tester and loop tester
• Run conduit, trunking and cable tray on new builds and renovations
• Complete job cards, material lists and test reports at the end of each job

• Your own basic hand tools and a calibrated multimeter
• Solid working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
• At least 3 years working as a qualified electrician after your trade test
• Valid Code 08 driver's licence
• Electrical trade test certificate (Section 13 or 26D) through a QCTO-accredited centre
• Clean criminal record, since you will work inside client homes

• PLC and motor control experience from a factory setting
• N3 electrical trade theory on top of your trade test

• Standby allowance when you are on the after-hours roster
• Provident fund and group risk cover after probation
• Company-issued test instruments, calibrated every year
• Company bakkie for call-outs and travel between sites

• Many applicants forget to attach the trade test certificate itself. Recruiters often skip CVs that only mention it.
