Registered Nurse (Emergency Unit)

This is a registered nursing post at a private hospital surgical ward in Brakpan, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The work is in Brakpan, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families

• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Clean criminal record
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid

• Unit manager or shift leader experience
• Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work

• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation

• List your speciality skills in plain words, such as "ventilated patients" or "normal deliveries", instead of just the ward name.
• Put your SANC number and the units you've worked in at the very top of your CV; recruiters filter on these first.
