Registered Nurse (Night Duty) – Experienced

This is a registered nursing post at a private maternity unit in Bellville, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

The work is in Bellville, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift

• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts

• Unit manager or shift leader experience
• Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts

• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
