Retail Security Officer (Clothing Store)

Blend in, watch closely and act lawfully: that is loss prevention at a supermarket in Pinetown. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll report in Pinetown. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Share trends with the store manager each week
• Tag high-value stock and check security tags at the doors
• Check receiving bay deliveries against invoices and seal numbers
• Help with stock counts and point out loss hot-spots
• Detain suspects lawfully and call SAPS, then write a statement
• Walk the floor in plain clothes and watch for shoplifting behaviour
• Review CCTV footage to confirm suspected theft

• PSIRA registration, Grade C at least
• Knowledge of lawful arrest and search under the Criminal Procedure Act
• Discreet, observant and honest
• Good report writing

• Retail trading hours, no night shift in most stores
• Staff discount at the retailer
• Plain clothes work (no uniform in detective roles)

• Give numbers on your CV: how many cases you opened, how many led to arrests. Retail security managers trust results.
• Keep your appearance low-key for the interview. Detectives need to blend in with shoppers.
