Roller Operator (Layerworks)

The road construction contractor in Isando needs an operator who looks after the machine as well as the job. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Home base is a road construction contractor on the Isando side of Gauteng. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers
• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill

• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders
• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work

• Refresher training on new machines
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
