Roller Operator (Layerworks)

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the quarry and aggregate supplier in Soweto. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll be based at a quarry and aggregate supplier in Soweto. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads

• Certificates on more than one machine type
• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge

• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Refresher training on new machines
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
