Route Planner (Last-Mile Deliveries)

Trucks, drivers, loads and deadlines all meet on your screen at a courier operations centre in Mthatha. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is in Mthatha (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Update customers on delivery times and delays
• Plan daily loads to use full truck capacity
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Phone drivers when trucks stop too long or go off-route
• Capture trip sheets, fuel and toll costs on the system
• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries
• Check driver hours so nobody drives too long without rest

• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• Good with Excel and email
• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Able to work shifts in a 24-hour control office
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong

• Transport management system (TMS) experience
• Knowledge of cross-border documentation

• Training on the fleet and tracking systems
• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts
• Growth to transport manager
• Office-based work with a steady roster

• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
