Job Description

Plan inspections, lead investigations and build a safer shift culture at the mining contractor on a platinum lease near Richards Bay. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

The work is in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

The work, day to day

Lead incident investigations using a root cause method
Review baseline and issue-based risk assessments with section managers
Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee
Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
Check that crews do planned task observations and pre-shift checks
Inspect workplaces underground and on surface against the MHSA and the mine's standards
Take dust, noise and heat measurements with the occupational hygiene team

You'll need

Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property
Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations
SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine

Extra points for

Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health
Occupational hygiene registration with the relevant council
Mine rescue training
