Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and an eucalyptus plantation near Coega needs crews ready. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is in Coega (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

The work, day to day

Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks

What you need

Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Valid ID
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes

Helpful, not essential

First-aid training
Fire fighting training
Previous plantation or sawmill experience
