Section Miner (Chrome Mine)

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This chrome and manganese mine near Ermelo needs that person. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Ermelo-based, with most of your time spent at a chrome and manganese mine. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand

• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
