Job Description

An insurance company software team in Pretoria East needs a developer who can take a ticket from idea to production. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll be based at an insurance company software team in Pretoria East. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

The work, day to day

Pair with junior developers to unblock them
Design database tables and write efficient SQL queries
Join daily stand-ups and sprint planning
Document how your features work for support and new developers
Build and consume REST or GraphQL APIs
Pick up tickets from the sprint board and estimate the work

What you need

Experience writing automated tests
Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
You can explain technical choices to non-technical people
Solid Git habits: branches, pull requests and meaningful commit messages
A computer science or IT qualification, or a portfolio that proves you can build

Extra points for

Experience in regulated sectors such as banking or medical schemes
Knowledge of secure coding and the OWASP Top 10
Cloud certification on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
