SHEQ Officer (Building Contractor)

The building contractor in Umhlanga needs a safety officer who is on the site, not stuck in the container office. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at a building contractor in Umhlanga. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Check that fall protection plans are in place for work at height
• Investigate incidents and near misses and report them on time
• Audit subcontractor safety files before they start work
• Run site inductions for every new worker and visitor
• Prepare monthly safety statistics for the client's agent
• Inspect scaffolds, excavations and edge protection daily
• Write and review risk assessments and safe work method statements

• Good understanding of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations 2014
• Confident enough to stop unsafe work, even when the programme is tight
• First Aid Level 1 at least
• At least 2 years as a safety officer on construction sites
• You write clear reports in English

• ISO 45001 internal auditor course
• Fall protection planner training

• Laptop and data for reporting
• Paid SACPCMP renewal and CPD
• Travel and site allowances

• Put your SACPCMP registration number and category first. Many CVs without it are rejected without being read.
• Bring a sample risk assessment or safety file index you drew up (remove client names). It shows your work better than a list.
