Contracts Quantity Surveyor (Commercial Builds)

You'll measure, price and manage the money on building projects for the property development company in Pinetown. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a property development company in Pinetown. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Track budget against actual cost and flag overruns early
• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Price tenders using supplier quotes, labour rates and plant costs
• Get quotes from subcontractors and compare them line by line
• Take off quantities from drawings to build a bill of quantities
• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings

• At least 3 years of QS work in private practice or with a contractor
• Understanding of JBCC Principal Building Agreement clauses
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify

• Estimating software experience on top of Excel
• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying
• Experience with civil bills using the SANS 1200 standard

• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses
• Travel allowance for site visits
• Hybrid days in the office and on site

• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
