Excavator Operator (20-Ton, Bulk Earthworks)

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the quarry and aggregate supplier in Ballito. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is in Ballito (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers
• Record machine hours and fuel on the daily plant sheet
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading

• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads

• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Refresher training on new machines
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week

• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
