Shift Supervisor (Underground Coal)

Have a blasting certificate and a clean safety record? The deep-level gold mine near Mbombela needs your crew leadership. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The site is in Mbombela; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure

• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand

• First aid certificate current
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Housing or living-out allowance
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
