Shift Supervisor (Underground Coal)

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This chrome and manganese mine near Welkom needs that person. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

The work is in Welkom, Free State, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act

• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
