Site Manager (Retail Construction) – Experienced

Keep the programme on track, the subbies busy and the site safe for the road and stormwater contractor in East London. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in East London (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Book NHBRC and municipal inspections at the right stages
• Check workmanship against drawings, specifications and SANS 10400
• Keep the site diary, daily labour returns and plant hours up to date
• Run toolbox talks and support the safety officer on Construction Regulations compliance
• Check reinforcing, shuttering and cover blocks before calling for a pour inspection
• Coordinate subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, roofing and glazing
• Chair the weekly site meeting and record actions for the principal agent

• You can read architectural and structural drawings and pick up clashes
• Code 08 licence and your own reliable transport between sites
• At least 5 years on building or civil sites, 2 of them in a supervisory post
• Firm with labour, fair with subcontractors

• Concrete technology short course
• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Manager or Candidate

• Site accommodation on out-of-town projects
• Cellphone and laptop supplied
• Project completion bonus linked to handover date

• A common mistake is listing only company names. Say what you built, for example "32 walk-up flats, 3 storeys".
• Mention the contract types you have worked on, like JBCC or GCC. It shows you understand claims and variations.
