Site Safety Officer (Civil Projects)

Safety files, inspections and toolbox talks: this road construction project in Mossel Bay needs someone who can do all three well. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a road construction project on the Mossel Bay side of Western Cape. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Hold toolbox talks on topics that match the week's work
• Investigate incidents and near misses and report them on time
• Inspect scaffolds, excavations and edge protection daily
• Prepare monthly safety statistics for the client's agent
• Compile and maintain the site health and safety file under the Construction Regulations 2014
• Audit subcontractor safety files before they start work
• Keep appointment letters and competency certificates in the file

• At least 2 years as a safety officer on construction sites
• You write clear reports in English
• SAMTRAC or an NQF-accredited health and safety qualification
• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health and Safety Officer
• Good understanding of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations 2014
• Confident enough to stop unsafe work, even when the programme is tight

• Paid SACPCMP renewal and CPD
• Laptop and data for reporting
• Clear growth path to a construction health and safety agent role

• Bring a sample risk assessment or safety file index you drew up (remove client names). It shows your work better than a list.
• Put your SACPCMP registration number and category first. Many CVs without it are rejected without being read.
