Job Description

Big machines, long days in season: a mixed crop farm near Prospecton needs a skilled operator. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Location: Prospecton, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

What you'll actually do

Check oil, water, tyres and grease points before starting
Plant rows straight, using GPS guidance where the tractor has it
Hook up and drive ploughs, discs, planters and sprayers
Mix and apply sprays exactly as the farm manager prescribes
Haul cane, grain or fruit bins from field to shed
Wash equipment after spraying and store chemicals safely
Operate combine harvesters during harvest season

What you need

Willing to work long hours in planting and harvest seasons
At least 2 years driving tractors on a farm
Available to live on or near the farm
Can read job cards and spray instructions
Reliable and sober on duty

Nice if you have

Experience with GPS guidance or auto-steer
A pesticide application or spray course
Code 8 or Code 10 licence for road trips

On offer

Training on new machinery
Overtime paid during planting and harvest
Harvest bonus at season end
Farm housing with water and electricity

Applying, step by step

Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
Keep copies of these ready to send: a farmer's reference letter with phone number plus tractor or spray course certificates.
Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 6 working days.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Prospecton.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

List the machines you can drive and the implements you have used. Farmers want to know if you can plant, spray or harvest on day one.
A reference from a previous farmer is gold. Ask for it before you leave any farm job.
