Staff Nurse (Night Shift) – Immediate Start

Your care keeps residents at a hospice in-patient unit in Bellville safe, clean and comfortable through the day. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll be based at a hospice in-patient unit in Bellville. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises

• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely

• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Uniform supplied
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
