Staff Nurse (Night Shift)

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a home-based care agency in Komani. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

The work is in Komani, Eastern Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister

• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely

• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• Dementia care or palliative care short course

• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Uniform supplied
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres

• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
