Staff Nurse (Night Shift)

You'll give hands-on nursing care at a hospice in-patient unit in Middelburg (MP), working alongside registered nurses. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is in Middelburg (MP) (Mpumalanga). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal

• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Dementia care or palliative care short course

• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Uniform supplied
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care

• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
