Staff Nurse (Night Shift)

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a retirement village frail care centre in Mthatha. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a retirement village frail care centre on the Mthatha side of Eastern Cape.

• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered

• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends

• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits

• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Uniform supplied
