Staff Nurse (Night Shift) – Entry Level

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a hospice in-patient unit in Somerset West. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is in Somerset West (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient

• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate

• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
